Crested Geckos
( 3 Articles )
Crested Geckos were identified in 1866 and presumed extinct up until 1994 when they were rediscovered after a storm. Crested Geckos have an other world appearance, with their large eyes, crests and exotic color and pattern which is exclusive to this species only. These geckos are indigenous to New Caledonia and Isle of Pines, a satellite island Southeast of the mainland. In their natural habitat Crested Geckos would be found anywhere from 9 feet above the ground in the low level branches and brush and upwards of 30-45 feet high in the trees. -
Gargoyle Geckos
( 2 Articles )
The Gargoyle Gecko was the first of the Rhacodactylus Genus to be bred in ample numbers by hobbyists in the '80s. Popularity has skyrocketed in recent years and genetic morphs are becoming more and more available as each year passes. These geckos are just as intriguing as the Crested Gecko and as much fun to work with in my opinion. The husbandry requirements are identical to Crested Geckos but there are some behavioral and nutritional differences you should be aware of prior to purchasing. -
Mossy Prehensile-Tailed Gecko
( 2 Articles )
The Mossy Prehensile-Tailed Gecko, or commonly refferred to as "Chahoua", is one of the most personable geckos you could ever have. Of all the geckos of the genus, Chahoua, is one of the only that is truly aware of it's surroundings keeping an eye on anyone or anything that comes into the room. So eager to come out of the enclosure and just "hang out" makes this species great for kids.
Chahoua will utilize their tail far more than any other Rhacodactylus - commonly curling their tail around your finger while being held. Mix a great personality with a bright base and accent colors, large eyes and uncommon head structure makes this species a great display animal.

New Caledonian Giant Gecko
( 5 Articles )
The New Caledonian Giant Gecko is the largest known living gecko. Their body is almost uniform from snout to vent with a short tail. Base color is yellow, green, brown and even black with blotches of white or pink accent colors. The most vocal of all Rhacodactylus with a number of unique calls. An agitated giant gecko will growl or almost grumble at the unfamiliar or unwanted handling.
Beside their size and vocal abilities, these geckos are known for their secretive habits. Slow movement, continuous hiding or laying out on cork bark under the full spectrum lighting almost flattened onto the surface alludes to their secretive habits. Over the course of a night an entire ounce of Repashy Superfoods has been seen to disappear with the gecko returning to the same spot it was the previous day. Scent marking is also an intriguing trait that these geckos use to prevent intruding males from entering their territory among other uses.
The Giant Gecko is a fascinating species that is a pleasure to work with. With so many interesting traits, locality specific colors and patterns, this species is one of the most exciting projects to be able to work with in my opinion.
